From organising cultural events for underprivileged school children to health and sanitation awareness camps for the rural folks, management students at XLRI, Jamshedpur are using their managerial skills to improve the lives of local communities. Anita Israni, secretary of the CII Young Indians Net, a student club at XLRI elaborates on the philanthropic activities in and around the campus.

Spreading awareness: As part of the club, students work in teams to organise health awareness camps for the adjoining rural areas. Besides this, they also arrange events and activities for senior citizens at old age homes during the ‘Joy of Giving Week.’ Apart from this, a group of volunteers from the institute regularly visit local schools to advise young students on career related issues.

The right aptitude: A high level of responsibility, emotional intelligence and determination is required to engage in such social activities. Faculty members play a key role in motivating students to take up socially-relevant projects during the programme. In this regard, the institute has also adopted two villages in the vicinity where students can make a sustainable difference.
