Alumni Homecoming 2014

XLRI, in association with Alumni Committee, celebrated Homecoming 2014 for its esteemed Alumni, in a manner, bigger than ever before. The Homecoming, which spanned across two days, enthralled both the alumni and the student community, as they walked across the hallowed portals of their common association, XLRI, interacting and enjoying with each other.

The Homecoming was inaugurated by Director Father E. Abraham and Prof Sharad Sarin, Chairperson, Alumni with a presentation showing how XLRI has been growing in leaps and bounds, but the spirit has remained the same.

The primary feature of the event was the ‘Distinguished Alumni Awards’ where 24 alums of XLRI were awarded for their exalted achievements under seven different categories: lifetime achievement, Practicing Manager, Academician, Young achiever, Entrepreneur, public service and Communication & Performing Arts. The award ceremony, conducted in the jam-packed Tata Auditorium, was indeed a special night. As the awardees walked across on the red carpet to receive their awards, amidst thunderous applause and appreciation, XLRI left no stone un-turned to entertain them and leaving them spellbound with a spectacular musical and cultural performance by the students. The awards night was followed by a grand dinner hosted by Mr T.V Narendran, MD, Tata Steel for the alumni and faculty and ended with a lively rendition by the college band, The Bodhi Tree.

Alumni Committee, for the very first time, organised an interaction session, ’Pole vault’,which saw an unprecedented response from the students. During the sessions, the alums shared their wisdom and intellectual takeaways from XLRI and most importantly, answered the numerous queries from an eager audience.

Alumni Committee also awakened the sportsmen in the alums, by conducting a Golf Tournament at the Golmuri Golf Course, hosted by Mr Bhusen Raina. It was followed by an informal cricket match later in the day.

The alums toured across the campus with their friends, reminiscing their days in their alma mater, filled with nostalgia. The two days came to an end in the blink of an eye. XLRI made sure that the memories of the ebullient atmosphere reverberate across the minds of its alumni, as they made a departure from the campus.
